love

I had a different post planned for today, but then something happened to me over the weekend... I fell in love. I fell in love with my new, end-grain, butcher block, island top, and it's all I want to think of right now.

Look at it. I mean just look at it. It’s all smooth, and big, and warmish red, and filled with interesting patterns, and just look at it! My friend Dan made it, which makes it even more beautiful  - knowing he spent time with it cutting and puzzling and gluing and sanding.

Soon we’ll be breaking wine glasses on it and scattering corks about it, but right now we are rubbing in the tung oil and letting it settle into its new home.

Sorry, no wine here today. Just some self-indulgent blathering, but I do have cake.

Spice cake with browned butter icing, from Dinner With Julie. I'll be back with a bottle soon... wouldn't want you to get the wrong idea about me.

  1. Nice! It's wonderful to know where things come from, who made them, and how they give a life of their own to a space.

  2. Yah. It was really great to watch it go in. And now I think of Dan when I look at it.
