boozy news and some malivoire

Terroir, as per the Oxford Dictionary: the environmental conditions, especially soil and climate, in which grapes are grown and that give a wine its unique flavor and aroma.

Savvy Company is hosting a tasting of winemakers who work and grow in the Twenty Valley Wine Region  - along the Niagara Escarpment. If you read the September 15th Vintages Magazine, and if you are one of those people who reads wine labels, you'll notice that Ontario winemakers are paying closer attention to appellations and vineyard plots, ie. terroir. This is your chance, if you live in Ottawa, to taste some wine from a particular region.. Savvy's Outstanding in their Fields event is happening on Friday, October 19th.

The latest wine and cheese tasting on Google Video Hangouts with Natalie MacLean is October 10th. You may recall that I participated in the first chat, braces and all. It's a fun winey romp through a few bottles. The group will also be Tweeting at #CDNcheese.

WineAlign has a groovy new page where wine blogs update regularly making it easy to find all your oh, so important wine reading, all in one place.

Most importantly, I'm still drinking leftovers from birthday celebrations. This red accompanied the white a few weeks ago and they make fine partners on the table.

For $14.95, this bottle is all about the juicy, bright, red fruit. There's accompanying notes of earth and spice for a little depth, and it's got an acidic kick on the palate. Overall, it's bright, light and easy to drink. I liked it slightly chilled.
